The food was amazing, service top notch and the location very very central. The outdoor bath was spotless and the private outdoor bath is very nice and new. We would absolutely stay again.

We had a great one night stay in their deluxe suite. When we arrived after being picked up from the train station, we were given a nice tour of the hotel and room. The room was wonderful, with a beautiful view of the mountains from the outdoor bath. The room was well appointed, had plenty of space, and had very comfortable beds. We were served both dinner and breakfast. Both meals were delicious with the multi-course dinner being the highlight. As expected, not all of the staff spoke English, but the staff that did were very wonderful. Our stay here was short, so we were not able to take advantage of all the amenities such as the restaurant and public onsen; however, the room and staff were great and I would highly recommend a stay here. Upon leaving, we were escorted to the provided transportation by the owner. She performed saikeirei as we left.

The destination itself is great; we went during the start of summer already and during weekday so there were not many tourists but still the hotel was quite busy - considering from guests line up to check in. It would be a lot better if the destination provides more English language in most places for those who do not speak Japanese.

I did a one day trip, I went there just because of the naturals onsen, and it was the best decision, I arrived about 10:00 at leave at the same time of the next day. Honestly I don't think is a trip for more than 3 days.
Gero is a beautiful city, it has a few museums that can be seen in one period of the day. As the city is small, it doesn't need car or bus to go around if no one has fiscal disabilities.
This was my second time at Japan, and I regret not going to Gero the first time as well.

The staff were all very kind and helpful to welcome our big group of my family, 14 of us including 6 children. We all enjoyed the authentic ryokan experience. The meals were delicious. We will definitely go back!

Out of all the places we ate in, I think we enjoyed eating in Unasho the most. They serve unagi, which is a specialty of Nagoya, their neighboring prefecture. There are some negative reviews about unasho, about how it's not value for money, but I don't think so. On our return trip, we passed through Nagoya station and ate in one of the famous unagi places in Nagoya called Maruya Honten. We preferred the unagi from Unasho, it was cleaner and prepared better because you felt the fishbones less in your mouth when you chewed.
The hot pudding from Yuamiya was TO DIE FOR. We came back twice to the shop during our trip so that we could eat it again and again.

If you love pudding, onsen or frogs, Gero is definitely the place to stay! The hot Hida milk pudding is absolutely delicious. There is a cute little frog shrine and lots of frog related souvenirs, cookies and street decor. There are public foot baths, great hot sprins and enough places to get a decent snack.
I can highly recommend La Vita e Bella. This is an italian place in Gero. The staff were absolutely adorable. They spoke English really well and they actually had a proper English menu.

Gero is located in the Center of the Gifu Region.
Gero is located in the Center of the Gifu Region. Small and very beautiful place, with unforgettable landscapes. The hot springs are scattered throughout the city and you can use them all the time. It is possible to walk the entire city on foot. Plenty of restaurants and shopping options.
A really charming location, it is 10 stories but never feels overwhelming. Lovely view and garden. Efficient station shuttle. As someone else said, it could be from a Wes Anderson movie or a novel. Kaiseki dinner and breakfast are top notch. Onsen facilities are slightly past their prime but do the job, the open air baths are really special. Room in the annex was huge and had a great private bath. I asked the hotel to recommend a nice hike and they suggested one. Reception was really helpful after I sprained my ankle.
I had an amazing time staying here, gero Onsen was just a short train ride away and the owners picked me up and dropped me off at the station every time I got a train! The house itself was lovely aswell old Japanese style futon, nice wooden Japanese decor and a river running just one step from your private door to the garden! the location is abit remote but with trains you can get to Takayama and gero very easily and the train ride is scenic as hell. I had a great time staying here :) .
The location.
The staff - probably top of my list on all the hotels I have been to.
The building inside was incredible. An indoor and an outdoor public bath - spotlessly clean. I took a bath just after dawn in the outside onsen. The sound of the river and the chirping of the birds was exquisite and set me up for the day.
The private dining room for all guests. The member of staff who served us.
Why go to the commercial onsen when this might be a possibility?
We will be back.
The location of the hotel is perfect in this little town. The Onsen area are very clean and perfect to relax after the day.
But the best part here were the food! We wrote the hotel just one day before we arrive if it's possible to create vegetarian meals for us. And they did a perfect job! We got the best meals we had in whole Japan and this also super spontaneously. Thanks to the whole team!
Loved everything!!! We had a lady from Napal that was our room attendant. She was absolutely wonderful and very kind. She set up our meals and helped us to understand hotel. All staff were wonderful. This town is so cool to visit. Next time we will come in summer to visit other little mountain towns nearby. Make sure you get the hot pudding!!!
I like everything, including the host, staff members, the room and facilities, meals with personalised menu, the onsen and the beautiful scenery. The hotel is located just opposite to the Ideyu Morning Market and a few minutes walk from the Gero Onsen Gassho-mura, a cultural heritage that shouldn't be missed if travelling to Gero.
Very friendly and English speaking staff. Good baths and you can access 2 of them till 0:00 and 1 works 24h. Very good breakfast (we didn't take dinner, but there is a good ramen restaurant near the hotel). We stayed in Japanese Traditional room which was a great experience.
Very good interior and atmosphere in the hotel.
Perfect location if you’re traveling to Gero. Reasonable price. Honestly exceeded our expectations. We’re free to use the Yukata to go to different onsens. Walking distance with all the stores. I love that it’s only across the river. Would highly recommend! Thank me later 😁
Outdoor onsen is very good
Dinner and breakfast meal set are delicious.
Hotel has beautiful riverside gardens and free foot onsen.
Staff has good service mind.
Hotel can arrange free transportation between hotel and train station.
The hotel is really cozy and comfortable. The hostess is kind to us and offers us a drive to the station. The onsen is great and breakfast is great. We had a great time here and will come here again next time!
